The students from Universitas Bengkulu achieved recognition in a national academic competition after participating in the Accounting and Capital Market Olympiad organized by the Accounting Student Association of Politeknik Negeri Jakartain 2024.

Gitanadine Evaluckyta, an accounting student from the 2023 cohort, competed alongside two teammates and secured Honorable Mention (First Runner-Up) with a total score of 23.5 points. The competition brought together participants from several universities across Indonesia and tested students’ knowledge in accounting and capital market topics.

Gitanadine said her interest in accounting started during high school and grew stronger after she entered university. She and her teammates first learned about the competition through an accounting student information forum where the organizers shared the event pamphlet.

However, the team decided to join the competition only one day before the registration deadline.

“Honestly, we weren’t very confident at first. We even registered just one day before the deadline"

Gitanadine said.

At the time, the team was still in their second semester, which limited their preparation. They relied on a booklet provided by the organizers that outlined the competition materials. The team studied accounting topics together, while the capital market section was handled mainly by one teammate who had experience in a capital market community at the university.

Despite their limited preparation, the team remained determined to compete. Gitanadine admitted that facing participants from well-known universities initially made them feel nervous and insecure.

“We felt a bit small when we saw participants from big universities,”

she said.

According to Gitanadine, teamwork played an important role during the competition. The team often discussed different perspectives before deciding on their answers.

One memorable moment for her happened during the journey to the competition. Traveling together by land allowed the team members to spend more time together and build stronger teamwork.

When the results were announced, the team was surprised to hear their name.

“I didn’t expect it at all because the other teams were very strong, but we felt very proud when our team received Honorable Mention,”

she said.

Gitanadine added that the experience taught her valuable lessons about teamwork, time management, and confidence in academic competitions. She also encouraged other students to participate in similar competitions.

“My advice is not to be afraid to try. If possible, start joining competitions from the early semesters. Honestly, I sometimes regret not joining more competitions earlier.”
